Social Events (to be confirmed!)

  • The IWBBIO organization also offers other social activities in order to know better the nice city of Granada. These activities will be included in the registration fees for Early Registration:

    • Visit and Welcome Reception at the Carmen de los Martires:
    • A "Carmen" is a traditional house with wonderful gardens from Granada, located in the famous Albaycin or Sabika hills. These "Carmenes" have existed in this area since the Arabs inhabited Granada. According to tradition, the Carmen de los Martires was built on the site of the former dungeons of the captive Christians in Nasrid times. Once the city was conquered by the Christians, it became a Carmelite convent with San Juan de la Cruz as prior for several years.

Its aspect today is from XIX century, as it can be seen from the orientalist trend of the moment. The gardens are a subtle blend of French and English models with the beauty of the Nasrid gardens.

Registrated conference members will have a light dinner at this beautiful Carmen, where they can enjoy amazing views of the city.

    • Visit to the Alhambra:
    • The Alhambra of Granada is one of the most important artistic-historical monumental group from the arabic civilization. It was created since the 11th century over more than six hundred years by cultures as different as The Muslim, the Renaissance or the Romantic culture. The Alhambra was a palace, a fortress and a citadel; the residence of the Nasrid Sultans and top government officials, court servants and the royal guard.

The Alhambra of Granada currently contains four clearly distinguishable zones: the Palaces, the military zone or Alcazaba (fortress), the city or Medina, and the villa/gardens of the Generalife, all of them surrounded by woods, trees, gardens, parks and vegetable gardens. The Alhambra was declared UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. In 2011, the Alhambra was the most visited monument in Spain with more than 2.300.000 visitants.

Registrated conference members will have the opportunity of visiting the monumental group of the Alhambra in a guided visit that will take place during the congress days.
